Mustang trek into Upper Mustang is to trek into another world,  a fascinating world parched of rain where, buildings of sun baked mud bricks have stood for centuries, where treeless eroded hills in grey-brown hues stretch into the distance and where the hardy Lopa (people of Lo-Moanthang) have entrenched themselves in villages designed to minimise the effects of the midday winds that howl up the Kali Gandaki gorge and placed where snow-melt irrigation channels can be cut to allow barley, buckwheat and mustard to be grown. Herds of yaks, goats and sheep roam the hillsides – along with Jharal (blue sheep) and illusive snow leopards.

In the 15th C this region dominated the salt trade between Tibet and India and while this trade has greatly diminished, little has changed in the life of these hardy farmers and astute traders, much of its original art, architecture, religion and history can still be explored. Our “circular” Mustang trekking route is chosen to take in most of the major attractions, including monasteries, important caves, villages plus a day to explore the walled city and surrounds of the capital, Lo Manthang. 

The Mustang trekking in Nepal begins from the lake city of Pokhara with a 20m flight to Jomsom up the Kali Gandaki gorge that separates the Dhaulagiri Himal and Annapurna ranges. The trail then follows the river up the gorge to the ancient village of Kagbeni and entrance to Upper Mustang Trek. The route ascends along and above the rivers and ridges carved by the Kali Gandaki’s many side tributaries, and includes five passes up to 4325m.

The first group of villages are home to Gurungs, beyond which the people belong to the Tibetan culture of Lo with most people following the Sakya Buddhist sect – with a strong Bön influence (the ancient animist religion that predates Buddhism). Wind and river erosion have carved the mountains into fantastic landscapes of eroded conglomerate cliffs in pigments of reds, browns and blues. Mani walls, picturesque white-painted villages, monasteries, including the cave monastery of Luri Gompa and the opportunity to interact with a people who have so completely adapted to life in this unforgiving landscape make this a unique Upper Mustang Lo-Manthang trek. We offer a basic tea house trek or a full camping trek on which our staff will pamper you with their service and meals to suit your needs.

4 days Poon Hill trekking tour

Nepal is the heaven for trekkers around the world. Having a plan to travel to Nepal, I randomly googled some trekking companies a month prior to my departure and contacted them afterwards. But only MMT who gave me clear details and itinerary with very reasonable price. Having no trekking experience before, I chose PoonHill Sunrise Trek as my first trekking experience. 

With very scenic view along the way to reach Poon Hill, Shiva, my guide, told me everything about Himalayan culture and tradition. Even in 4th day I got injured in my legs and should be picked up by a jeep on our way back to Nayapul, MMT covered the expense as well as an extra night in Pokhara too--because PoonHill trek should had been done in five days. In other words, what makes MMT different from any other companies that exist is they prioritize service rather than just fresh cash in hand. Even then I booked other package tour (mountain flight) from MMT as I had proved their trusted work.

I really thank Dolakh, Shiva, and the other crews for making my first trekking experience memorable and thank you for the patience.

Bahkan ketika di hari keempa trekking, saya mengalami cedera ringan pada kaki kanan saya yang mengharuskan saya melanjutkan perjalanan pulang dengan menggunakan jeep, MMT membiayai segala keperluan tambahan saya, termasuk penginapan selama semalam di Pokhara, karena sesuai dengan prosedur bahwa seharusnya trekking ini ditempuh dalam lima hari. Helambu region lies to the south of the Langtang region which is the third most popular trekking region in Nepal. Beautiful mountains such as Langtang Lirung (7227m) Dorje Lakpa (6966m), and the Jugal Himal along the Tibetan border, rise to the north and east of the valley. 

Helambu circuit trek is comparatively easy with elevations ranging between 800m and 3600m, offering less climbing as well as warmer temperatures than elsewhere.Helambu trekking route is also less crowded and quieter in comparison to the most popular trails while still offering a rich cultural experience amid beautiful scenery.

langtang gosaikunda trek

Langtang Gosainkund Circuit Trek begins with a 132km 8-10 hour bus ride from Kathmandu that follows the torturous and scenically exciting road to cross the Dhotre Khola, before turning north up the Trisuli Nadi to Syabru Besi (Lower Syabru): the starting point of the trek. Langtang Gosaikund trekking into the Langtang Valley, winds up the Langtang Khola, through forests of oak, rhododendron and then bamboo on the higher reaches of the trail. Shy red panda inhabit this valley. Kyanjin Gompa is a Sherpa village and an ideal place to experience the spiritual lifestyle of these Buddhist people: the monastery is about 700 years old. 

An early morning hike up Tserko Ri (4 984m/16 352ft) to about 4600m offers tremendous panoramic views of the High Himalaya, including Langtang Lirung (7 227m/23 712ft) and the foot of one of its glaciers. If time, a second short hike to a glacial moraine will offer similar views. A traditional cheese factory can also be explored in Langtang classical valley trek.

Our Langtang Gosaikund trekking route, then returns, via Lama Hotel, to Thulo Syabru (Big Syabru). Then to Chandan Bari (and the Shin Gompa): with magnificent views of Ganesh Himal (7422m/24 351ft) to the NW on the border with Tibet and Langtang II (6 596m/21 641ft) in the North Eastt. Next is the walk to Laurebina Yak and then on to Gosainkund. Watch the sun rise over the numerous glistening lakes: believed to have been created by Lord Shiva after striking the rock with his trident. It is an important pilgrimage site for both Buddhists and Hindus. 

This Langtang Helambu trail then passes over the Laurebina La (4 609m/15 121ft) and then descends gradually into the Helambu Valley with its terraced farmlands and rice paddies. The scenery is softer with views of the Dorje Lakpa and Jugal Himal ranges. Numerous Buddhist monasteries dot the countryside around the villages of Kutumsang, Chisopani and the large Tamang village of Mulkharka. From Sundarijal, a short one hour drive back to your Hotel.
