Helambu trek to the northeast of the Kathmandu Valley is a popular short trek into the Middle Hills. This culturally rich Tamang and Sherpa inhabited Helambu Circuit region is located just 70km north of Kathmandu and is an excellent destination in which to explore beautiful old forests and varied farmlands while crossing the ridges formed by rushing rivers from the uplands. Helambu valley trekking offers ample opportunity to sample the Tamang and Sherpa cultures and to interact with these warm and friendly people.
Helambu region lies to the south of the Langtang region which is the third most popular trekking region in Nepal. Beautiful mountains such as Langtang Lirung (7227m) Dorje Lakpa (6966m), and the Jugal Himal along the Tibetan border, rise to the north and east of the valley.
Helambu circuit trek is comparatively easy with elevations ranging between 800m and 3600m, offering less climbing as well as warmer temperatures than elsewhere.Helambu trekking route is also less crowded and quieter in comparison to the most popular trails while still offering a rich cultural experience amid beautiful scenery.
Outline Itinerary:
Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu (1,300m/4,264 ft)
Day 02: Kathmandu valley sightseeing & trek preparation (1,300m/4,264 ft)
Day 03: Drive to Sundarijal & trek to Chisapani (2,160m /7,130ft).): 1 hr drive; 5-6 hrs trek
Day 04: Trek from Chisapani - Kutumsang (2,450m /8,080ft): 6-7 hrs.
Day 05: Trek from Kutumsang - Thare Pati (3,650m /12,045ft):5-6hrs.
Day 06: Trek from Thare Pati - Tarkeghyang (2,590m /8,550ft): 6-7 hrs.
Day 07: Trek from Tarkeghyang - Sermathang (2,620m /8,645ft): 4-5 hrs.
Day 08: Trek from Sermathang - Melamchi Pul Bazaar (8,45m /2,790ft): 5-6 hrs. trek; 3-4 hrs drive
Day 09: Final departure
Transfer to international airport and fly to onward destination.
